The opulent Japonism in Fashion exhibition at Te Papa has been curated in collaboration with the Kyoto Costume Institute.
More than 90 gowns, shoes and accessories showcase the influence of Japan and Japanese designers on European fashion.
Contemporary designs from Gucci, Issey Miyake, Galliano and John Paul Gaultier are displayed alongside 1950s outfits by Givenchy and Dior, and those of Charles-Frederick Worth, the great 19th-century haute couture designer.
