Travel tipsters: Copy your documents

Before leaving home, photocopy your passport, driver's licence, travellers cheques - twice.

Leave one set with a trusted family member or friend. Take the other set with you, preferably giving them to the person you are travelling with. Keep them separate from the genuine article.

If you lose your passport overseas it is difficult to confirm your identity without some sort of documents.
