I was interested to read David Mason's observations on [the price of food in] Fiji (Travel Herald September 4).
We have been to Fiji more than 20 times since 1970 and have not experienced his problems.
We returned from Plantation Island in August where we spent five nights. Our hotel food bill was $310 for evening meals with wine for two people. On the island we had a choice of three restaurants.
The biggest cost I found with food was drink - a bottle of wine cost three or four times as much as in New Zealand and a stubbie of Fiji bitter was $4.50 each.
