If you wish you could be watching the Olympics for real, rather than just on the telly, it's not too late to go. Sydney, after all, is just a hop across the Tasman and swags of tickets can still be bought for many of the events.
Just what is available is listed on the official Sydney Olympics site. Here you can download a file of all the tickets on sale, including seats for the closing ceremony, which also includes the finish of the men's marathon.
Attendance at this event will set you back $A1382 ($1753) for the best seats and $A985 for the rest.
However, most events at the Games cost under $A100, with some tickets only $A10.
Tickets can be bought online, and picked up on arrival in Sydney.
An initiative which is helping solve the accommodation problem during the Games is a homestay and home host system run by a real estate firm, Ray White. It lists a range of private furnished accommodation for all budgets with plenty of places near the Games venues still available.
Once in Sydney, travelling to Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra is getting cheaper by the day. Impulse Airlines' "web-hot" airfares are leading a price war which Qantas and Ansett are starting to match. And when Virgin Blue joins the competition, we can hope fares will continue the downward slide.
Impulse Airlines offer web-hot airfares, which require full payment by credit card at the time of booking.
