Event
Gary McCormack and Tim Shadbolt, Schnappa Rock, Tutukaka Marina, 7.30pm. This is a comedy routine with the two veteran funnymen and a buffet to boot. $65. Ph (09) 434-3774
Beach
Onetangi, The Strand, Waiheke Island. This lovely white-sand beach is so long, there's no chance you won't find a decent spot to set up camp for the day. Plenty of room for everyone. Safe and good swimming even at low tide.
Children
Mission Earthling, Motat, Motions Rd, 10am-5pm. This exhibition about the human body as seen through the eyes of an alien - or whatever it is they use to visualise. It may be science and it may be an exhibition but there are 25 interactive exhibits that make learning fun.
Tramp/Walk
Smith's Bush, off Onewa Domain, Takapuna. There's also another entrance beside the Takapuna Cricket Club clubhouse. For a small, flat bush area, this has some whopper puriri trees. Good for a quick amble or a brisk walk.
Fishing
Kawakawa Bay: From Clevedon-Kawakawa Bay Rd, go straight ahead, past the boat ramp, and take the narrow winding road towards Waiti Bay. Below the road, rock ledges jut out into weedy holes which hide snapper, kingfish, kahawai and stingrays. At road's end is 40 minutes of walking track leading to numerous isolated spots. Best baits are freeflow squid, NZ pilchards, baby blue mackerel and fresh mullet. Expect to lose gear on snags. Old spark plugs make good sinkers.
Joke
A blind man walks into a bar with his seeing-eye dog. He lifts up the dog by its tail and whirls him around above his head.
The barman is hysterical: "What are you doing?"
The man replies: "Just having a look around."
