The Castle Pamela dates back to the turn of the century - this century.
Built by the Baker family in Tirau, about two hours' drive south of Hamilton en route to Rotorua or Taupo, this old-style but new castle is home to one of New Zealand's largest collections of dolls, bears and toys.
Visitors can see the collection in the castle and take morning and afternoon teas or lunch in the cafe, "The Great Hall", every day between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
Entry to the castle is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
The Castle Pamela is well signposted. From the north, take a right turn at the Oxford Royal Hotel into Hillcrest St and follow the signs.
