Visitors to the Albany Olive Press will discover the oval fruit is not just useful for making culinary oil.
Olive products at this plantation, just north of Auckland, include skin creams and soap, olive pate and pickled olives.
Informative tours of the olive grove and pressing mill, with tastings of the estate's extra-virgin olive oils, can be given by arrangement.
There is also a small nursery, fostering five different cultivars to suit the local conditions.
The Albany Olive Press, about 10 minutes' drive north of Albany, is open on Saturdays from 10.30am to 4.30pm. On the northern side of Dairy Flat, turn left into Horseshoe Bush Rd, and drive around 5km to Burne Rd on your left. The Albany Olive Press is at the end of Burne Rd.
