Energy to burn
The energy province will light up during the Taranaki Festival of the Arts, which runs July 26 to August 12. The festival kicks off with a lantern parade and a soundscape created by locals and Melbourne's Burning Sensations.
Local and international artists will feature in over 80 performances including an avant-garde circus, theatre, contemporary and classical music, comedy and cabaret, a writers' series and exhibitions.

Northland gourmet
The Northland Food and Wine Trail map shows you where to find everything from seafood to subtropical fruit, potatoes to pickles, and cafes to a gourmet cruise. The map has location details for over 60 participants. Available from participating businesses, i-SITES in the region, and online.

Pacific pathways
The theme for Beca Heritage Week in Christchurch is "Pacific pathways", which celebrates the journeys of the city's migrant groups and their social histories.
The festival runs June 22 to July 1, and includes a market day, tours of significant buildings, open days, guided walks, exhibitions, a photography competition, lectures and seminars, music and dance. The full schedule is online.

Calling all detectives
Someone has been poisoned at Te Papa, and the museum needs help to solve the crime.
The interactive exhibition The Poisoners in the Tower Gallery gives a close-up view of killer creatures and plants from the natural history collection.
Would-be detectives can look in cupboards and peep through portholes during their hunt for the elusive killer.
Entry is free and it runs until October 27.

Rhapsody in Rotorua
On June 28 and 29, Rotorua's Civic centre will be filled with the sounds of concert bands, orchestras, choirs, ensembles, percussion groups, jazz groups, and more during Rhapsody Rotorua, an international music festival for schools.
The event involves around 6000 students and supporters, and this year eight of Australia's top youth music groups will attend. There'll be 1600 free tickets available from Ticketek, from June 18.
