NZ Herald's Deputy Travel Editor, Stephanie Holmes, shares her travel dreams.
In a week: The Sunshine Coast. As you read this, I'll actually be on the Sunshine Coast, exploring some of the wonderful things this Queensland favourite has to offer. My itinerary is full of fresh air, food and fun activities (which you'll be able to read about in these pages later this year), so I can guarantee I won't want to come home on Monday night. Can I just stay a bit longer, please?
In a month: Hawaii, to feed the addiction for sun, sea and surf that was stoked in Noosa. While I'm there I'll check out Hawaii's largest block party — the 64th Annual Waikiki Hoolaulea (September 17, alohafestivals.com) — for live music, hula schools and Hawaiian arts, crafts and cuisine.
In a year: I'm bound to pick up some great surfing skills while I'm in Waikiki, so after a year of practise, in 2017 I'll head to Guatemala and the small fishing village of El Paredon. With a consistent break at a quiet beach, this is becoming a hot spot for surfers looking for their next wave. You can get private lessons at Paredon Surf House for about $25. Of course by then, I won't be needing them.
