In a week: There are always plenty of reasons to head to Nelson - wine, food, sunshine, wine, food - but next week there are even more than usual. The Nelson Arts Festival runs from October 12 to 24 and is packed with music, comedy, theatre and caberet, in venues all around the city. While I'm there, I'll do some day walks and kayaking in the Abel Tasman National Park where I'll no doubt be humming songs from Kiwi stars The Chills, Don McGlashan, Shayne Carter, Delaney Davidson and Tami Neilson, who are all on the Festival's bill.
In a month: Inspired after Tami's October 15 Nelson show, I'll head to Nashville, Tennessee - aka Music City - for live shows at the Grand Ole Opry, and good food at Taste Of Nashville, an annual festival bringing together restaurants, bars, brewers, distillers and dessert-makers.
In a year: In Austin, Texas, the Live Music Capital of the World, where the live performances start as soon as you walk through the airport terminal and continue everywhere you go. There are more than 250 music venues in Austin and it's beginning to move to the top of plenty of travel wishlists by those in the know around the world.
