Snow school
The Mt Ruapehu school holiday programme starts on Monday September 29 and runs on weekdays until October 3. Kids choose a half or full day's instruction. It's suitable for beginners to advanced skiers aged 6-12 years or snowboarders aged 8-12 years.

Art in the street
The Katikati Open Air Art Festival runs September 29 to October 4 and encompasses the National Mural Contest, where eight finalists will paint in public. Festival-goers can vote for their favourites and enjoy music, poetry, street entertainment, storytelling, cultural performances and exhibitions.

Touch of the past
On September 21, 10am-3pm, Kimbolton village in the Manawatu hosts Up the Kimbolton Way! The Victorian era will be recreated with blacksmiths, old-style shearing, old-fashioned sweets, horse and cart rides and more. The restored Kimbolton Public Library will be officially re-opened at 1pm. Tickets cost $20 and include morning tea.

Spanish springtime
On September 20 the Festival de la Primavera at Hamilton Gardens celebrates spring in Spanish-speaking countries of the southern hemisphere. A parade begins at the Jardín Hispánico at 1.45pm and is followed by traditional dances and music at the Pavilion.
