KEY POINTS:
It's free to wander around the gorgeous Hamilton Gardens but guided group tours run by knowledgeable volunteers are also available. They cost $50 for up to 10 people, $80 for 11-24 people and $100 for a group of 25 or more. Group lunches at the Garden Terrace Restaurant can be arranged for $12.50 per person.

Sue's the name
If you like scary monsters then head to New Plymouth's Puke Ariki to meet a T Rex named Sue. This skeleton is the world's largest, most complete and best preserved skeleton of the fearsome dinosaur that roamed North America over 67 million years ago. Sue will be on display until November 2. Entry is free for children under 16 and Puke Ariki members, others pay $10 entry.
