Build your ultimate flying machine and test it at the Russell Birdman Festival on July 12 - or just watch clever and crazy entrants launch their inventions off Russell wharf. The party starts at 9.30am with a Big Dig, followed by kayak races, a spaghetti-eating competition among others,
leading up to the Birdman Parade & Competition at 1pm. There will be entertainment and stalls, plus a Birdman Meltdown party at night. Entries close June 23.

Cruisy Christmas

The new Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre at Aoraki Mount Cook tells stories of the mountains through a state-of-the-art 3D cinema experience, a full dome digital planetarium, stargazing, a museum and the Hillary Gallery. A full day Explorer pass costs $20 (16 years+), $15 (seniors & students). Children free when accompanied by a paying adult. The cafe and bar have gorgeous views of Aoraki Mount Cook.
