Just when it seems there are "quite a few" options for those wanting to visit Antarctica, one expedition group is planning to break into iceberg-filled waters never visited by a passenger ship. The emperor penguin rookeries at Cape Roget, Cape Washington and Coulman Island usually remain unobserved around December because of the challenging ice conditions. However, the Lords of Antarctica tour sets off on December 3 this year with Quark Expeditions - a tour company which changes its itineraries with each departure to emphasise the features of the Antarctic.
Another trip leaves two days after Christmas for the Bay of Whales , going further south than any other vessel.
