Hive of activity in Waimauku

A two-storey organic honey bee "observation theatre" will be part of a visitors' centre on a lifestyle property at Waimauku, northwest of Auckland.

A licensed cafe opened at the centre yesterday, alongside a retail area for honey culinary products and gifts.

The rural property is large enough to offer pathways for mountain and road cyclists and provides cycle racks.

The honey centre, which will house a working honey-production facility viewed through glass walls, is expected to be completed in three weeks. BeesOnline cafe and shop can be found at 791 State Highway 16 (Northwestern Motorway) at Waimauku - about 25 minutes' drive from Auckland City. Opening hours are 9am to 4pm daily.
