History at the tower in Matamata

The Settler's Picnic at the Tower marks the start of the Matamata Ballot Centennial on Sunday.

The Firth Tower Museum and Reserve in Tower Rd is the setting for a day of old-time activities, including demonstrations of crafts from yesteryear, old machinery in operation, and sheep shearing the old-fashioned way.

There will be rides on a Clydesdale-drawn wagon and vintage cars and tractors will also be displayed.

Descendants of the "First Families" of Matamata are especially encouraged to attend.
