Alberton is one of Auckland's New Zealand Historic Places Trust buildings.
The timber building was built in 1863 as a farmhouse, and later enlarged to become a romantic 18-roomed mansion with attractive verandas and towers.
It was known for its balls, hunts, garden parties and music.
The house museum contains a collection of original family furniture and other possessions, and several rooms still have 19th-century wallpaper.
Open 10.30am-noon; 1pm-4.30pm Wednesday-Sunday, 100 Mt Albert Rd, Mt Albert.
