Trekkers in the Himalayas are being encouraged to "get their hands dirty" by planting trees and helping to build and repair schools, water systems, walking trails.
Working with Keep (the Nepal-based Kathmandu Environmental Education Project),adventure-tour company Peregrine has set up six community aid projects in the Kathmandu Valley.
Three days of working on a project can be added to a trekking holiday.
