One of New Zealand's first public-hanging sites is one of the intriguing historical spots you will visit on a Devonport Explorer Tour - and the only ghoulish one.
Catch the 12-minute ferry from Downtown Auckland to Devonport at 10am and some of the best views of the America's Cup yachts are likely if the day is a racing day.
A Devonport Explorer bus will pick you up from the wharf, and a commentary will be provided as you tour Auckland's oldest maritime suburb.
Highlights include quaint colonial Victorian and Georgian architecture, a ride to the summit of Mt Victoria, and a visit to North Head.
The entire tour can be completed in two hours, but tour members can leave the bus to swim, relax or explore tunnels and a fort built by prisoners at North Head during World War II, and pick up their tour on the last bus of the day around 3pm.
