The Otago Museum is collecting 50,000 hair samples from visitors to go into a time capsule.
The capsule will be sealed on January 1, 2001, and not opened for another 1000 years.
A single strand of hair can reveal a lot about a person and their environment and future scientists will be able to see, for example, how pollution levels have changed.
