A must do while visiting Whitianga is a trip aboard the glass bottom boat Seafari II to Te Whanganui A Hei Marine Reserve to experience the fish and marine wildlife. During this trip visitors can take in the breathtaking scenery of the world famous Cathedral Cove and discover spectacular Orua Cave.
Seafari II also has a marine mammal watch permit which allows it to take visitors close to dolphins and blue penguins. Snorkeling is a big favourite and with equipment supplied on board there is the opportunity of plenty of action for beginners and experts.
The entire tour is complemented by a commentary enriched with the local history and culture.
It's an amazing experience to sit above the water on a calm day and see down through crystal clear water watching an array of marine life - from blue cod to stingrays along with dozens of other species.
Safety is also a big issue for the company. Seafari II is an aluminium pontoon boat fitted with two glass bottom viewing windows. The crew is fully trained to ensure passenger safety and enjoyment while on board the 23 foot stabicraft vessel, which is recognised by The Jacques Cousteau Institute for its safety and stability.
Also on board is Waka-iti, a board glass bottom inflatable for those wanting to explore caves.
Glass bottom boat a clear winner
