A little natural H2O therapy can be found in 364ha of native bush, 60km south of Gisborne.
The Morere Hot Springs are a melting pot of waters from several springs - hot and cold - found where a fault-line crosses the Mangakawa Stream.
The pools are touted for their therapeutic value, and at the very least offer a welcome soak to those who take one of the bush walks in the area, which range from a 20-minute stroll to a three-hour hike.
Stream-side tearooms and a camping ground, also set in the bush, are just across the highway (SH2).
