Carved greenstone and bone, gemstone clocks and onyx marble ornaments, quartz, amethyst, kauri gum and petrified wood are just some of the treasures at Wilderness Gems in the tiny settlement of Ngatea on the Hauraki Plains.
Open daily, visitors can see examples of more than 100 tonnes of gem material from New Zealand and around the world - believed to be the largest collection in the South Pacific. Admission is free.
