Five of the best sights in Sydney

Megan Singleton takes a look at the best sights Sydney has to offer on a transtasman break.

1. Woolloomooloo

This next bay around behind the Opera House is reachable via a lovely stroll through the Botanic Gardens or around the waterfront. Stay at the Ovolo Hotel in the former wool store-cum-Naval building on Finger Wharf (Russell Crowe owns an apartment at the end). It's all about millennials, with an app for guests to choose music from a playlist " loaded with 80s music " to blast in the lobby. They are beyond cool, offering a free happy hour, free minibar, free breakfast and free wi-fi. So millennial. Check it out.

2. Taronga Zoo Roar and Snore

If you have kids in tow, or you just like to do it like the Discovery Channel (sorry, couldn't resist) this is a very cool Sydney experience. Pack your toothbrush and arrive at the zoo about 6pm where you will be shown to your glamping tent with views across the harbour to the Opera House. You'll have dinner then walk around the zoo at night, and it's up at 6am to help the zookeepers feed the animals. You'll need to book, it's sold out months in advance.

3. Pitt St Mall

You probably don't need to be told to go shopping, but pedestrianised Pitt St is lined with shops and anchored by department store Myer. They have brands here that we don't (yet) have including Zara and Zara Home, H&M, Sephora, Forever 21 as well as Sportsgirl and the usual Aussie brands.

4. Luna Park ferris wheel dinner

Sold out until early summer 2016/17, it would pay to keep this in mind if you are planning a marriage proposal. It's a three-course meal served in your own carriage on the ferris wheel as you take in the views over the amusement park, the harbour bridge, Opera House and the Rocks. You'll spend about two hours eating and drinking with about 30 minutes between courses.

5. Eat steak!

Who doesn't love a juicy steak cooked medium rare with a side of peppercorn sauce? My Facebook friends recommended a bovine meal and suggested Kingsley Steak and Crabhouse on Woolloomooloo Wharf (great if you're staying at Ovolo) or The Meat & Wine Co in Darling Harbour, which is so busy you need to book even on a Monday.
