Girlfriends' getaway? Megan Singleton has all the best places to go, home and away.
1. WAIHEKE ISLAND
What's not to love about wine tasting, cafes, brunches and a long, leisurely browse of the boutiques and shops in Oneroa, followed by dinner in or out? Book a holiday home near one of the many beaches and bays, or overlooking the aforementioned Oneroa. Stock up on nibbles and your splashes of choice and take a pile of mags for lazy afternoons in the sun just half an hour from downtown Auckland.
2. MELBOURNE
How my BFFs and I would adore the newly morphed Emporium shopping megalopolis. It's all bridges and laneways connecting David Jones and Myer with Melbourne Central and more retailers than you could visit in one day. Start with brekky in one of the famous Laneway cafes, then my recommendation is to divide and conquer until lunchtime. The one with the most bags of "show and tell" wins lunch on the others!
3. ROADTRIP
I love roadies with my besties; setting off only to stop 20 minutes later because that view is amazing or that antique shop looks curious. Our five-day drive up the Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Monica to San Francisco was great, with so much to see and do along the way. Create a roadtrip playlist for singing at the top of your lungs and take loads of pics, because all too soon you'll be reminiscing about it.
4. HONG KONG
The perfect getaway for girls who want to shop, have daily massages, drink cocktails at rooftop bars and try the food scene that is vast and wide in neighbourhoods across this exciting city. Start the day with a visit to an air-conditioned mall, with your "trying on" face ready, get lost in the markets, and end it with an hour-long foot massage in a zen-like parlour before taxiing home and falling into bed.
