A freshly prepared four-course meal embellished with a little local wine can be enjoyed between Melbourne and Geelong aboard a historic rail dining carriage.
The Classic Carriage Restaurant is hitched up to the Geelong passenger train when it leaves inner-city Melbourne's Spencer Street Station every Friday and Saturday and on some Thursdays.
The 1937 dining-car has all the atmosphere of a bygone era, complete with red velvet drapes, opulent chairs and silver service. An evening's dining costs $A99 ($118) a person.
