The first Diwali Festival of Lights - a celebration of Indian culture - will bring Auckland to life with the exotic sights, sounds and tastes of India's Festival of Lights later this month. This is considered one of the most important and colourful of the Indian festivals, and Indians all over the world celebrate it event on October 26.
The main venue for the festival in Auckland will be the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at 145 New North Rd, with celebrations from 10am to 10.30pm. Family entertainment is free and includes a colourful display of lights and decorations, fireworks and food stalls.
Also known as Deepavali, the festival marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year and is seen as a new beginning for all.
