High in Japan's mountains, in the town of Takayama, locals open their homes to strangers - but only strangers from Down Under. As members of the Japan/Australia/New Zealand Society, at least one member of these families can speak enough English to make their guests comfortable.
A two-night homestay is part of the 12-day Japan Autumn Glory tour, from November 4 to 16.
New Zealander Ann Matheson, who has lived in Japan, will guide the tour through cities and the countryside at the height of Japan's vibrant autumn. The cost is $5995 a person, including airfares.
