Award winners were determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of airline reviews and ratings submitted by travellers worldwide.
When it came to the top airlines in Europe, Russia's flagship carrier Areoflot took home the award.
Coming in at second place was Turkish Airlines, followed by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Finnair, Austrian Airlines, Aer Lingus and Icelandair.
Aeroflot also took off with the prize for having the best business class seats in town.
On the budget front, UK's Jet2.com won the title for being the top low-cost carrier.
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said the company was "thrilled" and "proud" to claim victory in the TripAdvisor rating.
He added: "What makes the accolades so special is the fact that they are based on customer experience and feedback, making the recognition even more rewarding."
Three other British airlines were recognised in the cut-price category, with Monarch, Flybe and Thomson take fourth, eighth and ninth place respectively.
Others to make the grade were Aegean Airlines from Greece, Russia's S7 Airlines, Air Malta, Norwegian Air Shuttle and Spain's Volotea.
