Timaru's Art Gallery bears the name Aigantighe, which is pronounced "egg and tie". The gallery is the South Island's third-largest art museum and holds New Zealand, Pacific, Asian and European art works from the 16th century to the present day. The collection includes paintings by Frances Hodgkins, C.F. Goldie, van der Velden and Colin McCahon.
Regional and touring exhibitions are featured and the gallery houses a sculpture garden. Opening hours are Tuesday to Friday 10am-4pm, weekends noon-4pm. Closed Mondays, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Admission is free.
