Eco-lodge a stress free getaway

The Ridge - an eco-lodge bed and breakfast just north of Auckland - was built with the health and well-being of guests in mind, using natural, chemical-free materials, from eco-friendly paint to wool insulation.

Guests are provided with detergent-free soap and shampoo, the beds have natural fibre mattresses, and the timbers have been oiled rather than varnished.

The Ridge is near Puhoi, a 45-minute drive north of Auckland, set on a 40ha bush-clad site overlooking the Waiwera Estuary.

Bed and breakfast costs $195 a night for a couple, or one party can book all three guest rooms for special occasions.
