Easy on the feet

If cycling sounds like a healthy way to look around - but the pedalling looks too strenuous - you could try hiring an electric bicycle.

Easyriders, in the Lake District National Park, England, hires these environmentally friendly machines.

Small motors on these easy-to-use bikes take the effort out of steep hills and headwinds. As the rider pedals, sensors monitor the speed and pedal force - giving an extra boost when it detects the ride is getting tougher.

Hire charges are sterling 18 ($56) a day or sterling 13 ($40) a half-day. Helmets, bicycle locks and maps are included. Child seats are available.
