If you're out Sunday driving, why not visit historic Couldrey House in the grounds of Wenderholm Regional Park? The home dates from the 1860s, but successive owners have added their marks over the years. Although it is now a museum mainly of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, its rooms and displays chronicle 140 years of colonial life.
It is open 1-4pm every Saturday/Sunday all year, and all public holidays except Christmas Day and Good Friday. It's also open every afternoon over the summer, or by private arrangement. A small door-charge applies. Wenderholm Regional Park is 48km (35 minutes) from Auckland City, just off State Highway 1. It is well signposted, and there are a variety of bush and beach walks.
