Great Columbia Crossing, October 3, Astoria, Oregon, USA
Picturesque Astoria lies on the spectacular Pacific Northwest Coast of the United States. It's the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies and is where the mighty Columbia River empties into the ocean.
Near the river mouth, the states of Oregon and Washington are linked by the Astoria-Megler Bridge, which at 6.6 kilometres is the longest continuous three-span truss bridge in the country.
The bridge is usually off-limits to pedestrians, but during the annual Great Columbia Crossing, runners and walkers can cross between states.
The social 10km event offers panoramic views of the region, and afterwards participants enjoy clam chowder and get Clam Dollars to spend in town.
