Frankfurt's massive Christmas Market has been operating for more than 600 years, and features hundreds of stalls selling arts, crafts, food and drink amid the stately buildings of the Romerberg and Paulsplatz.
These public squares are made even more picturesque with the addition of myriad twinkling lights and a gigantic Christmas tree, which is the focal point for a range of entertainment.
Tours offered by the local tourist office give an insight into the market's history, personalities, and culinary specialities and include a visit to the rooftop gallery of St. Nicholas Church, which affords amazing views. It finishes with a ride on a vintage carousel, marzipan and mulled wine.
