May 18-20, New Orleans
Founded during the evacuation of Hurricane Katrina, the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo is an annual community festival that promotes a better quality of life for New Orleans residents through arts, culture and recreation.
Visitors are also invited to immerse themselves in local culture at this family-friendly event, which offers a diverse range of performers on three different stages, an art market, delicious food and drink, a kids' stage, and activities such as bike rides, golf and a Rubber Duck Derby.
It's held on the banks of Bayou Saint John and, in keeping with the festival's sustainability ethos, last year volunteers planted thousands of plants along the banks of the bayou.
