June 23-25, Akureyri, Iceland
Every year amateur and professional golfers from around the world descend on the small town of Akureyri in Iceland for the extraordinary experience of playing a round of midnight golf.
Home of the northernmost 18-hole course in the world, Akureyri hosts the Arctic Open Golf Championship, which is played on a stunningly scenic course under a flaming midnight sun.
During the event the sun sets into Eyjafjordur Bay, but rises shortly afterwards to herald a new day.
This serious but social event is a 36-hole stableford tournament, with prizes for handicap and scratch scores, ladies, and over 55s.
