Gum digging is a unique part of New Zealand history, and Gumdiggers Park, 25km north of Kaitaia, is an authentic gum-digging site with many giant gum holes that have been untouched since the diggers left.
Kauri timber that is 42,000 years old can be seen on site, as well as the prized kauri gum.
Peaceful walking tracks through regenerating native forest pass rare and interesting plants, and the secluded habitat attracts a variety of wildlife. Located on Heath Rd, Waiharara.
