Cycle around Lake Taupo

One of the world's largest fun cycle rides streams around the sublime setting of Lake Taupo, attracting more than 5000 cyclists every year.

Held since 1977, the November 24 event's emphasis is on enjoyment and cyclists of all abilities are encouraged to take part. Despite a few difficult hills, children as young as 12 and 13 have finished the ride.

The scenery makes the journey all the more inspiring for reaching the finish line. A celebratory carnival afterwards will award more than $70,000 worth of spot prizes.

For this silver jubilee year, a special 1000km enduro ride begins two days before the fun cycle.
