See the largest gannet colony in the world with Gannet Beach Adventures at Cape Kidnappers in Hawke's Bay.
A four-hour tour travels along the majestic and rugged coastline of Cape Kidnappers to the largest mainland gannet nesting site.
Tour members sit on a well-padded open trailer, towed by a vintage tractor that takes them along the beach at the base of towering cliffs.
The tour includes time for a picnic and swim or an optional 25-minute walk to view two gannet colonies.
As it is an all-weather tour, suitable footwear and clothing are recommended. Lunches and snacks can be arranged at an additional cost. Tours leave almost every day, but at varying times, and cost $25 a person or $17 for children aged five to 15. Children four and under are free.
