The first New Zealand tour operator to take tourists to China in the 1950s is heading up the Yangtze this year with a three-week, guided journey.
From October 6 to 29, for $7475 a person, the New Zealand China Friendship Society tour begins with three days in Shanghai, two in Wuhan and a bus ride to Yichang to see the world's largest dam. A three-day luxury boat trip through the Yangtze Gorges is followed by four days in Chengdu and a 24-hour train journey to Kunming, Dali and Lijiang.
