Names familiar to readers of Herald's Travel magazine featured prominently in this year's Cathay Pacific Travel Media Awards.
Best newspaper article was Ewan McDonald's "Turkish Delight" from the Herald's My Generation magazine. Runner-up was Venetia Sherson's Getting in the Italian Groove which ran in Travel. Best travel book went to Ian Robinson for Tea With the Taleban (David Bateman), the title story of which was first published in Travel, as many of his adventure stories have been.
The award for the best unpublished image went to the Herald's Babiche Martens whose pictures of India will run in Travel shortly.
Aaron Smale, last year's travel photographer of the year, was runner-up for best overseas image for a photo of Cuba, and Pamela Wade was runner-up for best story about Britain and Ireland with Slowing It Down, both of which ran in Travel.
The travel writer of the year and winner of best New Zealand story was Steve Braunias' Trouble in Mosgiel (North and South).
Travel photographer of the year and winner of best series of images and best New Zealand image was Tess Chrisp (NZ Life and Leisure).

Best magazine story, Liz Light (Her); best journey, Nicola Boyes (Waikato Times); best story about British Isles, Pam Neville (Listener); best new travel writer, Bonnie Jay Etherington; best pictorial travel book, Grant Sheehan's NZ Landscapes (Phantom House); best overseas image, Liz Light (North and South); best image with people, Ann Huston (Your Weekend).
