Local, national and international stone carvers have gathered on the New Plymouth foreshore for the biennial Te Kupenga stone sculpture symposium.
The theme this summer is "Parihaka, the struggle for peace", which ties in with the exhibition at neighbouring Puke Ariki, the city's new museum.
Until January 16 artists can be seen at work on their sculptures, which will be exhibited January 18 to 24. At 1pm on January 24 the sculptures will be auctioned.
