Only rent a scooter if you are licensed to do so, it's so not worth the agony of having your insurer or the local police on your case. Motorbike drivers are the cheapest way to travel around in Bali, a 20-min ride will cost about $2. Before you arrive, download the Go-Jek and Grab apps. The Uber-equivalent is much cheaper than taxis. Depending on where you are, Go-Jek drivers are more accessible than Grab drivers, or vice versa; get both apps just in case. You can either pay with cash or purchase "Go-Pay" credit from convenience stores Alfamart or Indomaret.
If you decide to go for a ride, head west out of Canggu and follow the winding roads through the striking rice fields. Pererenan Beach and Seseh Beach are within a 20-minute ride. Another 20 minutes away is the Tanah Lot temple, a Hindu temple set on a dramatic rock formation (admission costs $6).
Head to JI Restaurant Bali for great Japanese fusion food, great views and great service in a 300-year-old reconfigured temple. Budget $40 per head.
