If you fancy a challenge, I'd recommend a Mt Batur morning trek. You'll be picked up from Canggu in the early hours and driven to the base of the volcano. The hike up the active volcano takes a few hours and you reach the summit around sunrise. The views are incredible, with a shimmering Lake Batur below. $70.
Break your fast at local favourite Nalu Bowls, just inland from the black volcanic sands of Echo Beach. Nalu churns out coconut shells filled with blended local fruit; each bowl is named after the owner's favourite waves from around the world. The most ornate will cost only$10.
Spring Canggu is the third prestige lifestyle spa opened in Bali by Kiwi businesswoman Ina Bajaj and another is soon to follow. Experience a traditional Balinese massage that focuses on tension areas using long flowing strokes, skin rolling and pressure-point therapy, $45. Side note: Less bougie Balinese and Thai massages are available everywhere. Remember your currency goes further than the locals' do. Tip well.
"Warungs" are local restaurants in Indonesia, and they range from streetside shacks to fancy eat-in restaurants and they're all delicious. Ithaka Warung is a gem a few steps from Batu Bolong beach, with a lovely rooftop setting. A huge meal shouldn't set you back more than $10.
It's up to you how much you do with your afternoon. Balinese surf guides await on Batu Bolong beach to give lessons. The waves are beginner-friendly and surfboards of all sizes are available to rent for less than $5. Better yet, you can get what might be the cheapest surfing lesson in the world, around $30 for two hours.
