Forty years ago, caravans were as much a part of the New Zealand lifestyle as fish 'n' chips and Jandals. After a lull in the 1980s, they are on the rise again - a great affordable alternative to city-priced holiday homes.
David Culpan, who runs March's Covi Motorhome Caravan and Outdoor SuperShow, says the freedom of motorhomes and caravans mean families can get a quintessential Kiwi summer holiday by the beach.
"They can go 'off the grid' or stay in camping grounds. We are really seeing an increasing number of families coming and purchasing. They are trying to find ways to give their kids some of the experiences they had when they were growing up."
• The Covi Motorhome Caravan and Outdoor SuperShow, ASB Showgrounds runs from March 13-15, with 140 exhibitors. See supershow.co.nz or facebook.com/CoviSupershow for further details.
