Created by volunteers in 1964 from an abandoned quarry on the slopes of Auckland's volcanic Mt Eden, Eden Garden is home to one of the largest collections of camellias in the Southern Hemisphere.
The garden's diverse mixture of plants includes vireya rhododendrons, bromeliads, palms, conifers, hostas and New Zealand natives, which all provide year-round interest in a striking setting.
Open daily from 9am to 4.30pm, entry costs $5; $3.50 for senior citizens; children free. There is also a cafe, open from 10am to 4pm.
