It's not uncommon for ultra-frugal passengers to try to squirrel beverages on board cruise liners to save money.

The practice has long been frowned on by most cruise lines but now two of them are letting you come out of the wine closet.

Crystal and Carnival now welcome passengers who bring aboard their own wines.

For those who would like their favourite wines shipped to the line in time for the cruise, Crystal will even will provide the port agents' contact information.

As of last year, Carnival also allowed passengers to bring aboard their own wine for use in the dining room for a $US10 corkage fee.
