Best of barbie chefs

The Great New Zealand Barbecue is an inaugural family charity event in Whangarei during Anniversary Weekend January 26 and 27.

While raising funds for its local North Haven Hospice Society, the Whangarei Tourism Trust aims to find the best barbecue specialist chef in New Zealand. The competition, at Barge Park, will be split into amateur, professional and creative sections, with contestants supplying and cooking 2kg of meat, to be sold to the public.

Entertainment includes sheep-dog handling and shearing displays, arts and crafts, and live music.
