Six of the 10 races at the Onetangi Beach Races on Sunday are on horseback. The rest involve wheelbarrows, tractors, waiters with serving trays and small laser yachts.
Organised by the Waiheke Island Rotary Club, the Auckland Anniversary Weekend events begin at 10 am.
Entertainment includes a sandcastle competition, a tug-o-war,a fashion-in-the-field event and an attempt to break the world record for the biggest group hug, for which about 1000 people are required.
