The government of the Bahamas has issued a rare travel advisory for any of its citizens visiting the United States, noting that young men should in particular take care.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns visitors to "exercise appropriate caution," amid tensions in some US cities over the shootings of young black males by police officers.
"We wish to advise all Bahamians travelling to the US but especially to the affected cities to exercise appropriate caution generally," it said. "In particular young males are asked to exercise extreme caution in affected cities in their interactions with the police. Do not be confrontational and co-operate."
The ministry also advised people not to get involved in demonstrations and to avoid crowds.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) has the United States listed as a destination with "some risk" to travellers, due to an increased threat of terrorism.
